Prof. Fuller directs the Autonomous Insect Robotics laboratory, that explores how to create robots as small as common insects like honeybees to operate autonomously and perform tasks like hazardous gas leak detection, agriculture monitoring and maintenance, pollution monitoring, and space exploration. An important task is to create an extremely low size, weight, and power (SWaP) sensor package that will allow such robots to sense and act. This requires a close interplay of hardware and software to create embedded flight control and navigation system that consumes just a few milliwatts of power.
