Our team conducts basic and applied research across a wide variety of open-science domains to develop innovative visual analysis modes and to improve visual analysis performance, knowledge gain, and insight communication for both local and remote users. We conduct our work on the largest NSF-funded supercomputers currently in service, including Frontera (#9 worldwide, 11/2020 top500), and our two multi-modal visualization laboratories on the UT-Austin campus. Our research directions include: high-fidelity ray tracing; in situ visualization; novel visual representations and display modes that promote visual harmony and enhanced interpretability; virtual and extended reality environments; and accelerating scientific simulations by leveraging rendering libraries and hardware.
