I am affiliated with the Department of Preventive Medicine and Center for Behavioral Intervention Technologies (CBITS) at Northwestern University’s Feinberg School of Medicine. My research centers on designing and testing messaging-based digital tools that can help individuals manage common mental health concerns like depression and anxiety. I am particularly interested in using machine learning to improve the delivery of content within automated text messaging tools for mental health self-management. I am hopeful that, by delivering more of the content that users enjoy and find useful, we can keep them engaged long enough to achieve meaningful improvements in mental health symptoms. I collaborate with researchers who represent a number of relevant disciplines and perspectives (clinical psychology, computer science, statistics, communication, cognitive psychology, etc.).
