My current work is focused on improving the state of software engineering in scientific/engineering research domains. I’m particularly interested in improving the state of software engineering and reproducibility in machine learning with a special focus on low-power computer vision, which remains one of the grand challenges of artificial intelligence and machine learning. I have recently received a new grant as part of a collaboration between Loyola University Chicago, Purdue University, and Case University to improve the efficiency of computer vision methods so that they can run on battery-powered edge devices. For this to be successful, a solid focus on computer systems, software engineering, and reproducibility will be crucial to our success.
